Twitter has a new security setting, always-on HTTPS (aka SSL), aimed at denying hackers the ability to potentially break into your Twitter account. Always-on HTTPS blocks programs, such as Firesheep, that sneak in through unsecured WiFi connections.
.
Twitter follows Facebook and Google’s lead by offering this enhanced security setting. This is not your default setting, not yet, although Twitter says that they hope to move to always-on SSL as a default in the future. You have to make a change to your security settings to get this benefit.
.
Be aware that this setting is still not a cure all. It does not give you HTTPS when you access Twitter from the browser on your mobile phone or similar device. You will still have to manually go to https://mobile.twitter.com to protect yourself for now.
.
Start protecting your Twitter account today by going to “your settings” on Twitter.com and check the box for “Always use HTTPS” at the bottom of the page.
